Job Description

Create and redesign broad technical infrastructure and information systems that define how servers, networks and storage systems work together to support the needs of the organization. Document current state architecture, design ideal state architecture and develop plans and solutions to deploy new solutions that meet emerging business needs. Ensure stability and scalability, anticipating capacity growth through careful planning and awareness of trends. Responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the CMDB within the ServiceNow platform. Owns the Infrastructure Discovery and Application/Service Mapping lifecycles along with their associated technologies. Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for infrastructure discovery and application service mapping. Works closely with other technology SMEs and stakeholders to build and maintain accurate application service maps. Designs, develops, and implements custom patterns, probes, and sensors to achieve a complete and accurate discovery of infrastructure components and application services. This position is part of a foundational, fast-paced CMDB team that partners with multiple departments across the organization. The team supports a wide range of enterprise services and plays a critical role in enabling lifecycle management, service delivery, and cross-functional collaboration.

Job Responsibility

  • Maintain and update the CMDB, ensuring all configuration items (CIs) are accurately documented, tracked and aligned with standards
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated discovery processes using ServiceNow Discovery, Cloud Discovery, and Agent Client Collector (ACC)
  • Integrate external data sources into the CMDB using Multisource CMDB capabilities and Service Graph Connectors
  • Ensure CMDB data accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the CSDM framework
  • Lead the implementation and configuration of ServiceNow Discovery, Service Mapping and other CMDB-related modules
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CMDB-related issues including integrations and data quality issues and provide ongoing maintenance and enhancements
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the CMDB processes, tools and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Manages ServiceNow Discovery and ServiceNow Service Mapping
  • Ensures that horizontal discovery and service mapping products are highly available, reliable, and performant
  • Creates and maintains custom patterns, probes, and sensors to accommodate internal discovery requirements
  • Develop and maintain discovery schedules, credentials, and probes for hybrid environments (on-prem and cloud)
  • Monitors discovery and service mapping results, reconciling and addressing any anomalies
  • Proactively plans capacity of ServiceNow MID servers and maintains and configures them appropriately
  • Works with Service Owners and SMEs to ensure that accurate service maps are discovered and maintained
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders across Configuration Management, Risk, Security, Operations, and Asset Management to ensure accurate service mapping and lifecycle alignment
  • Supports integration of CMDB data with lifecycle processes including asset request, approval, acquisition, provisioning, and decommissioning
  • Participates in platform upgrade planning, testing, and validation
  • May participate in projects including preparing project plans, assigning tasks, monitoring statuses, coordinating efforts, validating team recommendations, integrating efforts into a comprehensive strategy, and delivering results on time
  • Writes and/or reviews system specifications, including output requirements, flow charts, and technical diagrams

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate Scripting experience using JavaScript, Groovy, PowerShell, Bash, RegEx, SQL, etc.
  • Discovery probes, sensors, and patterns
  • Linux and Windows Server Operating System administration
  • Protocols such as HTTP, TCP, SNMP, SOAP, and REST
  • Web and Application servers such as WebSphere, JBoss, MQ, IIS, Apache
  • Markup languages such as XML and JSON
  • Microsoft Active Directory architecture
  • Storage Area Network technologies
  • Understanding Virtualization concepts and technologies
  • Understanding network concepts such as routing, switching, firewalls, NAT, load balancing

Nice to have

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with discovery and application mapping technologies
  • Preferably ServiceNow Discovery and ServiceNow Service Mapping
  • Experience with Microsoft SCCM, Tanium, or similar discovery tools is also acceptable
  • ServiceNow-related certifications are a plus
