The Closure lead will be providing Life of Mine leadership on closure and rehabilitation, including studies, planning, and execution of mine closure and rehabilitation. You will play an integral role in Integrating closure into mine planning with a view to constantly reducing the business closure liability. Collaborate with key stakeholders and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and effective risk management, whilst meaningfully engaging with our traditional owners in delivering on our closure commitments.
Job Responsibility
Oversee the studies program to drive timely, high quality baseline, feasibility and due diligence studies that reduce MinRes closure knowledge gaps and support regulatory approvals (waste, soil, water, Geotech, landform design, contaminated sites)
Complete studies to schedule and budget while ensuring outputs meet quality and scope expectations
Lead the development of mine closure plans (and MDCPs) that integrate with mine planning and provide pragmatic solutions to closure challenges
Develop an integrated progressive rehabilitation and closure schedule that reduces closure liability and meets compliance expectations
Represent with critical closure stakeholders (particularly Traditional Owners) on closure outcomes and post-mining land use
Manage the closure cost estimation process, and tracking of MinRes closure liability, including reporting this to the Board and working with the finance team to ensure costs are built into financial models
Support the delivery of on-ground execution of closure works, including physical works and post-rehabilitation monitoring
Oversee the MinRes contaminated sites program including site investigations for historical or incident-related contamination risks
Meet regulatory guidance in respect to investigating, monitoring, and reporting on suspected contamination
Contribute to clear, accurate internal and external reporting that articulates progress towards closure KPIs and objectives, risks and any key changes
Ensure participation in industry working groups, conferences and forums to both promote MinRes and stay informed of industry best practice and opportunities for innovation or efficiency in closure management
Track and report on spend against budget to Senior Manager and finance team – ensure compliance to CAPEX and OPEX spend
Ensure team record keeping interfaces with internal systems, making sure that information is current, relevant and accessible
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science / Engineering or related field
Comprehensive understanding and ability to interpret environmental legislation, guidelines, standards and other requirements
Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational environmental advice across all business levels
Ability to characterise and assess project and operational risks and determine appropriate management measures consistent with the risk profile
Experience managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, including conflict resolution
Demonstrated ability to work within large multi-disciplinary teams and strong stakeholder engagement ability
