Job Description

The Close Protection Officer is responsible for providing professional, discreet, and effective personal protection for the principal in a range of environments. The role requires exceptional situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt to dynamic situations while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and the comfort of the principal.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide close and continual protection for the principal during daily activities, travel, and events
  • Maintain constant situational awareness and identify potential threats or vulnerabilities
  • Plan and execute protective formations, evacuation routes, and immediate action drills
  • Respond swiftly and decisively to security incidents, emergencies, or medical situations
  • Conduct advance planning and reconnaissance for all movements and engagements
  • Develop and brief travel routes, contingency plans, and security measures for upcoming schedules
  • Coordinate with drivers, venues, and third-party security providers to ensure seamless operations
  • Accompany and protect the principal during domestic and international travel
  • Oversee secure transportation logistics, including route selection and vehicle readiness
  • Ensure safe accommodation arrangements and advance site security assessments
  • Continuously monitor and assess threat levels related to the principal’s activities and profile
  • Liaise with security agencies, local authorities, and event organisers as needed
  • Maintain incident, travel, and risk reports for accountability and review
  • Uphold the highest standards of discretion, confidentiality, and personal integrity
  • Represent the principal with professionalism and diplomacy at all times
  • Respect privacy, personal boundaries, and lifestyle requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in close protection, corporate, or private security environments
  • Valid SIA Close Protection Licence (or international equivalent)
  • Current First Aid at Work / Trauma Medical Certificate
  • Advanced driving qualification (e.g., RoSPA, IAM, or equivalent)
  • Excellent operational awareness, risk assessment, and communication skills
  • Exceptional discretion, professionalism, and integrity
  • Calm and decisive under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physically fit, alert, and adaptable
  • Flexible attitude to hours and travel commitments
  • Impeccable appearance and deportment

Nice to have

  • Military or law enforcement background
  • Experience providing protection for corporate executives, public figures, or UHNW clients
  • Counter-surveillance, defensive tactics, or advanced medical training (FPOS-I, FREC 3+)

  • Ensure that the UK entities' legal and regulatory obligations for data privacy and protection across their licensed footprint are mapped to a comprehensive set of activities, processes and controls to enable compliance
  • Ensure that the global Horizon Scanning framework is embedded in the UK DP team's BAU with appropriate contributions to formal UK Compliance reporting including to the Change Committee
  • Manage the UK DP team, tracking and monitoring the effectiveness of delivery against key activities, in line with internal SLAs, to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Keep workloads and resource needs under close observation and proactively identify problems or inhibitors and escalate where appropriate for resolution
  • Identify development opportunities for direct reports and support the team pastorally
  • Engage closely with internal stakeholders in Infosec, IT and co-sourcing relationships in Claims to support the effective and efficient delivery of DSARs, e-discovery requests, and subpoenaed information as required
  • Oversee any externally outsourced DP provision for the UK entities in jurisdictions where they operate, working with regional DPOs as required where resources are shared
  • Where appropriate and within your expertise, provide advice and guidance on technical DP matters including DP contract clauses where the contract is governed by English law
  • Retain external advisors when needed to ensure appropriate levels of specialism are enlisted when required
