New social work position (30 hrs.) needed to provide a range of clinical social work services to children, adolescents, and families in the Child Protection Program (CPP) at Boston Children’s Hospital, with a focus on psychosocial support, assessment, advocacy, and consultation for children and families affected by suspected child maltreatment. Established in 1970, the CPP’s core goal is to ensure that children suspected of being maltreated receive appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, and advocacy to address immediate medical and safety needs. The Child Protection Team provides 24/7 on-call coverage, expert consultation services, case-specific support, and professional training to hospital staff on issues of child maltreatment.
Job Responsibility
Provides high-quality clinical consultation to hospital staff, trainees, and community partners on child protection concerns, including suspected abuse and neglect, mandatory reporting obligations, and safety planning
Under general supervision, provides clinical social work services to assist patients and families with personal, family, medical, and environmental difficulties arising from child maltreatment and family violence
Performs psychosocial and risk assessments, assigns diagnoses, and develops and implements evidence-informed interventions and treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary Child Protection Team
Participates in planning and implementation of discharge and outpatient service plans and collaborates with healthcare team members, DCF, and community agencies to plan, implement, and follow up on treatment and provision of needed services
Contributes to the education and training of medical and clinical staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members on child maltreatment identification, trauma-informed practice, and child protection protocols
Participates in prevention and community education initiatives, supporting the program’s commitment to addressing child maltreatment at both the individual and systems level
Functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team, contributing to case conferences, collaborative decision-making, and ongoing quality improvement efforts across the CPP
Requirements
Master’s degree in social work required
Minimum of 5 years of licensed social work experience
Previous experience in a medical environment and with child protection, trauma, family violence, or forensic social work strongly preferred
Familiarity providing clinical consultation and/or education and training to multidisciplinary teams preferred
Excellent communication skills, including experience engaging with child welfare and legal systems, and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
LICSW licensure required in the state of Massachusetts
Nice to have
Previous experience in a medical environment and with child protection, trauma, family violence, or forensic social work strongly preferred
Familiarity providing clinical consultation and/or education and training to multidisciplinary teams preferred
