The Research Nurse in collaboration with the physician, is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of clinical research in their specific program/area. The CRN has expert knowledge of cancer as a disease process, cancer treatment modalities and the process of conducting medical clinical research. In addition, the CRN utilizes evidence-based nursing practice and has expertise in developing and coordinating a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological, and social needs of those cancer patients and their families undergoing therapy in a clinical research trial.
Job Responsibility:
Assists principal investigator with protocol development
Assists with the Institute’s protocol review process
Assists in developing the protocol budget
Collaborates in developing protocol specific materials
Serves as research coordinator for various protocols
Assists with recruitment and registration of patients to clinical trials
Coordinates scheduling of patient’s assessments and visits
Monitors test results
Coordinates protocol data management
Collaborates with staff in the completion of clinical research trials
Coordinates study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements
Works collaboratively as a member of the health care team
Collaborates with Care Coordination for patient care referrals
Provides protocol education to patients and families
Collects and prepares required specimens
Documents in charts and communicates findings
Provides protocol in-service training
Monitors the environment of care for patient safety
Maintains evidence-based clinical practice
Participates in QA/QI projects
Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Nurses
Fosters an inclusive environment
Administers medications
Maintains BLS certification
Identifies areas for professional growth
Formulates professional goals
Pursues membership of professional organizations
Supports research activities
Participates in committees
Meets evaluation requirements and competencies
Collaborates in preparing reports, articles, and presentations
Requirements:
Licensed as a registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or State of New Hampshire as appropriate
Baccalaureate degree in nursing strongly preferred. If associate degree in nursing, must complete BSN degree within 4 years
Minimum of 1-year recent experience as an RN
Ambulatory and/or oncology experience preferred
Professional nursing certification preferred (OCN, BMTCN, CPHON, AOCNP, CRNI, RN-BC)
AHA BLS required (AHA ACLS accepted as minimum requirement)
