Job Responsibility

  • Provide expert pharmacotherapeutic consultation and direct patient care during resuscitations, trauma activations, stroke alerts, and other medical emergencies, making rapid, evidence-based recommendations on drug selection, dosing, administration, and monitoring
  • Expertly manage complex toxicology cases, lead medication preparation in critical situations, and provide urgent drug information to ED physicians and nurses, ensuring medication safety and efficacy
  • Diligently contribute to quality improvement initiatives, precept pharmacy residents and students, and provide invaluable education to emergency department staff, enhancing the overall standard of care

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • Residency completion or three (3) years of clinical experience
  • Active Texas Pharmacist License in good standing
  • Board Certification (e.g. BCCP, BCPS) required within 3 years of hire
  • BLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association

  • Authorize prescriptions for the pharmacy technician, performing a final check before dispensing medication to the nursing station
  • Promote long and short-range planning to respond and integrate within the market, Region, and system
  • Work collaboratively with pharmacy peers to standardize clinical pharmacy systems when appropriate
  • Work, as directed by facility pharmacy leadership, on developing, coaching and mentoring pharmacy staff to maximize their scope of practice in the provision of clinical pharmacy services and scholarly activities across the continuum of care
  • Educate the medical staff regarding cost-effective, quality pharmaceutical care based on evidence based medicine and best practices
