An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join a leading cancer service in North West England on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This post is ideal for an experienced Consultant seeking a dynamic role within a modern oncology centre, delivering high-quality radiotherapy, systemic anticancer therapy, and outpatient and inpatient cancer services. The successful applicant will hold a special interest in Gynaecological Oncology and Upper GI Oncology, contributing to specialist multidisciplinary cancer pathways across a large regional population. Flexible working arrangements are available, including opportunities for some remote working, such as radiotherapy planning and sign-off. Applicants with 1 year of NHS experience are encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibility:
Provide a comprehensive Consultant-led Clinical Oncology service alongside Consultant colleagues
Lead and develop specialist oncology services in Gynaecology and Upper GI cancers
Deliver outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, radiotherapy and chemotherapy management
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for site-specific cancer pathways
Undertake radiotherapy planning, peer review and treatment decision-making
Work collaboratively with surgeons, physicians, radiologists, pathologists and specialist nurses
Participate in the out-of-hours Consultant on-call rota
Support service continuity during Consultant colleagues' annual leave and study leave
Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees
Contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education
Undertake clinical audit, governance, annual appraisal and job planning reviews
Participate in research, innovation and service improvement initiatives
Requirements:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
CCT in Clinical Oncology (or equivalent) or within 6 months of interview
Entry on GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Oncology (or eligible within 6 months)
Minimum 1 year NHS experience
Wide Oncology experience, including Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy
Experience as a trained Clinical Supervisor
Evidence of Clinical Leadership
Experience in audit and service development
Strong multidisciplinary working experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational skills
Ability to lead within complex MDT environments
Commitment to patient-centred care and patient feedback
Enthusiasm for education and mentoring
Commitment to CPD and appraisal
Research-minded with an evidence-based practice approach
Nice to have:
Educational Supervisor status
Stereotactic Radiotherapy experience
