The Spinal Nursing team are a small, busy team who provide care for hundreds of patients every year, supporting young people from assessment through to discharge. An opportunity has arisen for a temporary Band 7 registered nurse (child) to work 32 hours per week on a 6-month temporary secondment basis. Substantial experience in paediatric nursing at Band 6 or above is essential. There is a specific remit within this role with regards to a review of the whole nursing spinal team and associated service provision. The successful applicant will need to provide leadership to the spinal nursing and support team, setting an example of professional standards. You will be an enthusiastic, motivated individual who is keen to develop the spinal service, advocate for families and enjoy a challenge. It is essential that you have experience in orthopaedic and spinal nursing care and it is also essential that you have discussed this secondment before applying for this post with your line manager. This is an interesting and varied post working alongside medical staff, technicians, physiotherapists and other professionals both in inpatient and outpatient settings, caring for patients in both surgical and non-surgical spinal conditions.
Job Responsibility
Lead the delivery of a specialist nursing service for children, young people, and their families with a focus on implementing clinical policies, guidance, and standards to enhance care quality
collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop the service plan, ensuring appropriate resourcing, and maintaining professional nursing standards
regular service audits, team management, and delivery of developmentally appropriate care for diverse patients with complex needs across multiple settings
provide expert advice, organize educational programs, promote health equity, and collaborate with stakeholders to continuously improve patient care and outcomes
Requirements
Experience in paediatric nursing at Band 6 or above
NMC / RNC/RN8
educated to degree level supplemented by postgraduate training/experience and continued professional development to Master's level or equivalent
998 or mentorship/supervisor training
Good Clinical Practice GCP certificate
experience in paediatric nursing within a specialised care setting
experience in clinical assessment, planning and implementation of care pathways for patients with complex needs
experience of assessing and interpreting patient conditions, taking appropriate action
experience of critically evaluating actions and results while planning for the short and long term
experience of undertaking audit to inform or produce changes to practice
in depth knowledge of paediatric nursing and experience in managing care for children and young people within the specialty
ability to build collaborative relationships with the multidisciplinary team and wider health community
ability to communicate sensitive and confidential information concerning patients/families such as safeguarding or life-limiting conditions adhering to GDPR standards
current driving license and use of car
commitment to promoting health equity and addressing health inequalities
ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
