Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice nurse who functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, leader, consultant and researcher. In collaboration with the healthcare team, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS sphere of influence includes the care of the patient/family, practice of nursing and providing solutions for complex systems and processes.

Job Responsibility

  • Functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, leader, consultant and researcher
  • Monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes
  • Serves as a role model, patient advocate, charge agent, and leader to enhance patient care

Requirements

  • Masters Degree Nursing with expertise in clinical nursing specialty (required)
  • RN - Registered Nurse License - CA-BRN - California Board of Registered Nursing (required)
  • CNS - Clinical Nurse Specialist - CA-BRN - California Board of Registered Nursing (required)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
  • Minimum three (3) years Experience in clinical area (required)
  • Minimum five (5) years Experience in area of specialty (preferred)
  • Extensive advanced knowledge of nursing principles, practices and systems

Nice to have

  • Other - Other National Certification (preferred)
  • Minimum five (5) years Experience in area of specialty (preferred)
