Job Description:

Under intermittent supervision, organizes and directs the work of nursing units and programs. Coordinates staff to provide effective nursing services and maintain quality standards. Utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to develop and maintain an environment that supports the professional nurse and staff.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assists with the development of the operational budget and monitors expenses and productivity
  • Provides adequate staffing for the department to ensure safe and effective provision of care delivery
  • Develops and implements effective educational programs
  • Evaluates staff competency
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring
  • Participates in corrective disciplinary action decisions
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services
  • Ensures quality of care to patients and families
  • Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards
  • Bases decisions and actions on ethical principles
  • Collaborates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive officers, and other stakeholders
  • Delegates responsibilities appropriate to licensure, education, and experience of staff
  • Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to assigned staff

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Three (3) years increasing responsibility in clinical nursing, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory position
  • Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card required

Nice to have:

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or other healthcare or business related field
  • Three (3) years in a clinical leadership position in applicable specialty
