The main purpose of the Clinical Nurse Facilitator in Theatre is to assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in providing the necessary educational and clinical support to nursing staff. There is a specific emphasis on supporting the novice nurse to plan and direct care. The role is one of encouraging and enabling learning and promoting a high standard of care to all nursing staff in the Department.
Job Responsibility:
Acts as a role model at clinical level
Promotes the learning environment on the unit through continuous education relevant to the patients admitted to the Theatre
Provides mentorship /preceptorship, teaching and supervisory skills for nurses, student nurses, health care assistant and nurse on adaption or return to practice
Assist in the orientation of new staff to the unit
Ensure all staff have completed Mandatory Training and record on TMS Assist in running an in-service educational programme for staff
Engaging in direct clinical teaching for nursing staff in the Theatre
Maintain awareness of current advances in treatment, care and research
Use relevant educational opportunities to maintain the highest standards and practice in Theatre
Participating in the planned performance review for nursing within the Theatre
Identify training needs and put in place a plan for learning and development of all staff involved in patient care
Demonstrate leadership ability together with good communication skills and management capability
Help to foster a supportive working environment and maintain staff morale
Be aware of hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and accreditation manager to ensure that these are observed
Assist the Unit Manager in interviewing and selecting of staff
Maintain documents according to the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic
Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate nursing personnel
Communicate appropriate with colleagues and other members of the health care team in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety
Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing
Facilitate culture change were necessary
Report all incidents immediately, which may adversely affect a patient, colleague or the Blackrock Clinic
Function within the limits of The Nursing and Midwifery Board Ireland and hospital policies, procedures and standards
Support the Mission Statement of Blackrock Clinic
Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the hospital as required
Set annual goals and objectives with CNM
Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills
Provide direct supervision to other members of the nursing team when appropriate
Participate in working groups to develop and promote quality care within Blackrock Clinic
Accept responsibility for “Acting Up” in specific instances, as assigned
Requirements:
Registered in the general division of NMBI
Evidence of personal professional development
Minimum of 3 years experience in acute care setting
Full knowledge of the Domains of Competence as set down by NMBI
