RCGP Scotland has received funding from the Scottish Government to deliver a one-year project aimed at reducing gambling harms in Scotland and is looking to appoint a Clinical Lead to conduct this work. Building on the RCGP Gambling Harms accreditation scheme previously delivered across the UK, we are now initiating a Scotland-specific programme of learning for GPs based in Scotland. There is a significant unmet need with respect to engaging people experiencing gambling harms. GPs have a key role in early identification, assessment and treatment of people suffering from gambling harms. The RCGP Scotland Gambling Harms Project will address this need by raising awareness of the issues, helping to improve GP knowledge, supporting this by sharing learning resources and tools, and evaluating our work to understand the impact and develop the evidence base. By doing this we intend to improve outcomes for patients and reduce stigma. We will design and deliver a variety of learning opportunities for GPs and their practices including: live webinars, eLearning modules, and sessions with GP Quality Clusters, with appropriate resources available to support these activities.
Job Responsibility:
Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the country combining national clinical leadership with local system knowledge to deliver a coherent, equitable and lived-experience-led approach to reducing gambling harms
Review and update existing resources and materials and create new tools ensuring that these are up to date and relevant to GPs and the wider primary care team in Scotland
Develop and deliver a series of national learning webinars to close the knowledge gap in general practice, highlight trends and research surrounding gambling harms and inform healthcare professionals how to identify and treat different priority groups who are at risk from gambling harms
Work with Cluster Quality Leads to identify networks of practices to which we can deliver core learning materials as part of their quality improvement activity
Deliver awareness raising sessions via the RCGP Scottish Faculty network to encourage local engagement with the programme
Use existing networks to promote engagement with the e-learning modules, webinars, and the wider programme, encouraging practices to work towards accreditation
Design a comprehensive three-part evaluation to measure and demonstrate the impact of the programme
Create case studies as part of the evidence base and use these to further promote the programme
Work with a PR and media organisation to increase the public profile of the project by showcasing powerful real-life stories to highlight the impact of the project
Chair stakeholder group meetings to update on progress and seek guidance, as required
Support the provision of verbal and written update reports to the project funder
Work with the RCGP's central project team, whose remit is to deliver the Gambling Harms Project in England, to ensure alignment of work and to share knowledge and insights
