Requirements

Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined: 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination
3+ years of high complexity clinical testing experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Demonstrated strong professionalism and leadership skills
Demonstrated intermediate level project management skills
Demonstrated strong technical skills and professional working knowledge of job industry
Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Job Responsibility

Perform moderate and highly complex laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures with minimal supervision
Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures
Identify potential problems, determine potential solutions, and take appropriate action in order to maintain a high level of quality in test processes and results
Achieve and maintain competency on laboratory tasks
Participate in research, validation, and/or implementation of new procedures and/or technologies
Maintain stringent standards for quality, by identifying, investigating, correcting, and documenting any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution
Determine appropriate time allocation between daily test processing needs and project needs in a high quality, efficient and effective manner with minimal direction
Demonstrate and maintain effective communication with internal employees, managers, customers, and cross-functional teams

Requirements

Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license (or CGMBS/generalist license) meeting CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing
Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, physical, clinical laboratory science, or a related field
Meets CLIA General Supervisor qualifications under 42 CFR 493.1461, including appropriate education, training, and experience
Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in high complexity CLIA testing, with demonstrated expertise and experience in NGS technologies

Job Responsibility

Perform and oversee daily laboratory operations for high complexity NGS assays, ensuring adherence to established protocols and quality standards
Supervise and provide guidance to laboratory personnel, including training, competency assessment, and performance management
Ensure the accuracy and validity of test results through review of quality control, quality assurance, and assay performance metrics
Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements
Assist in the development, validation, implementation, and optimization of NGS assays and workflows
Monitor laboratory workflow, turnaround times, and resource utilization to ensure operational efficiency
Troubleshoot technical issues related to instrumentation, assays, and data analysis
Review and maintain laboratory documentation, including SOPs, validation reports, and quality records
Collaborate with laboratory leadership to support continuous quality improvement initiatives
Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
