Must have a current State of California license or temporary license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and ASCP or equivalent

Job Responsibility

Performance of all test procedures in the assigned section
Must be able to work in all areas of the Core Lab (Chemistry, Coag/UA, and Hematology) or Blood Bank and Microbiology or all sections of the laboratory
Perform duties accurately, efficiently and independently
Initiate QC failure corrective action
Participate in inventory control
Perform instrument preventive maintenance
Troubleshoot instrument and reagent problems

Requirements

Minimum five years experience in an acute care facility laboratory working in 2-3 sections of the Laboratory or seven or more years working 1-2 sections
Internal candidate promotions based on total experience job performance as a CLS-II and potential for success as a CLS-III
As required for licensure in State of California. Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.

Job Responsibility

Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director Laboratory Director and Section Supervisor a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is assigned the responsibility of: occasionally obtaining the sample to be tested from a patient
routinely analyzing specimens for reportable results by standard procedures
recording and transmitting results to the physician initiating the request
and working in two or three of the laboratory section(s).

Job Responsibility

Performs a variety of routine and highly specialized diagnostic tests and specialized procedures
Assures quality of the results and communicates relevance of results to other health care professionals
Performing a variety of moderate and highly complex and diagnostic laboratory testing under general supervision in the laboratory
May perform specialized procedures in special laboratory sections unique to each laboratory’s discipline
Evaluating whether the results are abnormal/critical and takes appropriate action internally/externally according to laboratory guidelines
Recording results of tests with all supporting documentation for clinical interpretation
Performing regularly scheduled quality control, preventative maintenance, and calibration of equipment according to laboratory guidelines. Performs all troubleshooting and repair
Participating in department continuing education including training program expanding scope of knowledge
Providing general assistance to less experienced laboratory personnel
Communicating principle/theory to physicians and other professional staff

PhD in a related subject area with demonstrated in vivo research experience in metabolic disease
Postdoctoral or industry (2-5 years preferred) experience in genetic metabolic diseases

Effectively partner with other scientists and the Research and Early Development team to develop and execute on the program's strategic plan
Present program data at a range of internal forums, including project team meetings, Research Department Seminars and Research leadership governance forums
Write, review and contribute to study synopses, protocols, study reports and regulatory documents
Collaborate with various BioMarin functions, CROs, university or analytical laboratories, business partners, as necessary to ensure appropriate/timely progression of projects
Participate in multi-disciplinary drug development teams and may lead sub-teams
Execute hands-on responsibilities including but not limited to animal handling and restraint (rodents), administration via various routes of administration, including intravenous (tail-vein), in-life animal health monitoring and measurements, clinical observations, sample collection and processing, and accurate data collection
