Job Description:

May possibly be hired/classified as CLS-II working one to two sections of the Laboratory if total experience as a State of California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) meets or exceeds 7 years and a suitable CLS-II job requisition and opening exists that would allow work in only one to two Laboratory sections.

Job Responsibility:

  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director Laboratory Director and Section Supervisor a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is assigned the responsibility of: occasionally obtaining the sample to be tested from a patient
  • routinely analyzing specimens for reportable results by standard procedures
  • recording and transmitting results to the physician initiating the request
  • and working in two or three of the laboratory section(s).

Requirements:

  • Minimum five years experience in an acute care facility laboratory working in 2-3 sections of the Laboratory or seven or more years working 1-2 sections
  • Internal candidate promotions based on total experience job performance as a CLS-II and potential for success as a CLS-III
  • As required for licensure in State of California. Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.

  • Evaluating whether the results are abnormal/critical and takes appropriate action internally/externally according to laboratory guidelines
  • Recording results of tests with all supporting documentation for clinical interpretation
  • Performing regularly scheduled quality control, preventative maintenance, and calibration of equipment according to laboratory guidelines. Performs all troubleshooting and repair
  • Participating in department continuing education including training program expanding scope of knowledge
  • Providing general assistance to less experienced laboratory personnel
  • Communicating principle/theory to physicians and other professional staff

  • Collaborate with various BioMarin functions, CROs, university or analytical laboratories, business partners, as necessary to ensure appropriate/timely progression of projects
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary drug development teams and may lead sub-teams
  • Execute hands-on responsibilities including but not limited to animal handling and restraint (rodents), administration via various routes of administration, including intravenous (tail-vein), in-life animal health monitoring and measurements, clinical observations, sample collection and processing, and accurate data collection
