We are seeking dynamic, motivated doctors to join a progressive Stroke Medicine team in the North East. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality care across the entire stroke pathway — from hyperacute and acute management to rehabilitation and follow-up services. The successful candidates will contribute to the assessment and management of stroke patients, participate in the middle-grade on-call rota, and be involved in all aspects of hyperacute stroke care, including thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, and the management of intracerebral haemorrhage. You will also support TIA services, pre-hospital stroke triage via video assessment, and recruitment to stroke research trials.
Job Responsibility:
Provide timely assessment and management of stroke patients across hyperacute, acute, and rehabilitation phases
Work closely with specialist stroke nursing teams and emergency departments to ensure rapid and effective delivery of hyperacute treatments
Support early patient rehabilitation, management of medical complications, and shared decision-making with patients and families
Contribute to weekly MDT meetings, neurovascular and stroke governance sessions, and thrombolysis/thrombectomy reviews
Participate in outpatient follow-up and contribute to the TIA service
Engage in audit, quality improvement, and research — with opportunities to act as an Associate Principal Investigator (PI) for stroke research studies
Attend weekly educational sessions, including the Stroke Journal Club and clinical governance meetings
Provide teaching and supervision to junior medical staff and allied health professionals
Requirements:
Complete registration with the GMC and a licence to practise
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience

Evidence of teaching, audit participation, and multidisciplinary teamwork
Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
Nice to have:
Postgraduate degree (MD/PhD) or equivalent
Experience in hyperacute stroke care, TIA management, or mechanical thrombectomy pathways
Experience leading audits, teaching in structured clinical courses, or publishing research
Familiarity with service development and change management within the NHS
