Baptist Health is hiring a Clinical Ethicist to join Bioethics Program. This is a full-time opportunity located on the downtown Jacksonville campus of Baptist Health. The Bioethics Program at Baptist Health System enjoys broad organizational support and is looking to hire two clinical ethicists to join our well-established, collaborative, growing Team.

Job Responsibility:

  • Receiving requests and conducting ethics consultations independently
  • Documenting consultations in a timely and thorough manner in the electronic health record
  • Following up with patient cases after referral
  • Engaging directly with care providers, professional staff, patients, and families
  • Delivering high quality ethics consultation services
  • Participating in on call services on a rotating basis
  • Participating in the continuous development and quality improvement of ethics consultation services
  • Tracking ethics consultations and identifying recurring issues
  • Engaging in preventative ethics activities
  • Participating in monthly Bioethics Performance Improvement Case Conferences
  • Rounding on units throughout the Health System
  • Partnering with Ethics Liaisons and Ethics Program colleagues to provide moral distress debriefs
  • Offering guidance on clinical and organizational ethics issues
  • Delivering high-quality bioethics education throughout the health system
  • Developing and delivering bioethics education to medical residents, PA, ARNP, medical, and nursing students, and multidisciplinary healthcare Team members
  • Identifying opportunities for providing bioethics education
  • Engaging in clinical ethics research and scholarship
  • Contributing to the clinical ethics literature and presenting at conferences
  • Helping to develop, review, and revise ethics-related policies
  • Working with multidisciplinary colleagues on Health System committees and working groups

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in ethics, bioethics, philosophy, public health, nursing, or other healthcare degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in an acute care hospital in a similar role
  • Less than 1 year Clinical Experience Required
  • Less than 1 year Relevant equivalent experience in lieu of education Required
  • Less than 1 year Clinical Ethics Consultations Experience Required

Nice to have:

  • PhD (in Ethics or other relevant healthcare area), JD, or MD/DO
  • Clinical Ethics Fellowship Strongly Preferred
  • HEC-C (Required within 2 years of employment)
  • Experience performing ethics consultations in pediatric and adult settings, either as an individual ethics consultant or as part of an ethics consultation team, strongly preferred
  • Healthcare Ethics Consultant - Certified (HEC-C) Preferred
