Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are looking to recruit a Clinical Coder with enthusiasm and motivation to join our dedicated and friendly team. This role will require great attention to detail, excellent concentration span and logical thought process. You will need to be dynamic, enthusiastic and methodical.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide a vital and dynamic role in supporting delivery of the clinical coding service
  • Work with clinicians and clinical staff
  • Be directly accountable for improving coding quality, depth, ensuring the ongoing accuracy of clinical coding
  • Meet Trust's deadlines associated with clinical coding

Requirements

  • UK ACC qualification (ideal but not essential)
  • Passed an individual audit to the same standard as the DSPT Audit
  • Experience coding across a wide range of specialities within an Acute NHS Trust
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology
  • Competency in the use of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
  • Proficient in the use of digital systems
  • Thorough understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions
  • Significant experience of cross-specialty coding (for non-ACC qualified candidates)
  • Willingness to commit to training and development to become qualified
  • Ability to make analytical judgement to translate complex cases for coding
  • Ability to work using initiative by planning and organising own workload
  • Ability to undertake and contribute effectively to long term departmental plans
  • Understanding the need for confidentiality
  • Good communicator
  • Ability to share knowledge
  • GCSE or equivalent
  • Clinical coding foundation course
  • Refresher workshop training
