Perform intake, assessment and care management for patients in a Sports Medicine out-patient clinical setting
Triage, field questions and communicate self-care, prevention and treatment
Communicate with physician and medical team to determine need for further care, special testing or services
Assist in establishing a plan of care based on evaluation results, health goals and appropriate techniques
Communicate plan of care to all parties involved in patient's care
Monitor and evaluate outcomes and appropriately adjust treatment plans based on response to treatment
Complete an after-visit summary including written home exercise programs, patient/family teaching, referral for specialist, community services, and DME
Recognizes potential issues and the need to advocate for patients by working with the physician and/or key professionals
Identify factors affecting a patient's physical and psychosocial comfort and attend to these needs
Complete required documentation following department policy - including assessments, progress notes, and after visit summaries as appropriate to record patient care
Performs various patient positioning, transferring and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
Act as lead AT in coverage of a professional rugby team, including pre-season screenings, creation of emergency action planning, providing sideline coverage for practices and games in-season to include on site evaluation and treatment plans while communicating and coordinating care with the physician and clinical staff
Requirements:
Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
Currently licensed or eligible for Athletic Trainer license issued by the state in which the teammate practices within 30 days of hire
Completion or ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), which includes CPR and AED training within 30 days of hire
Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program
Should have experience in evaluating, caring for and managing rugby athletes in both the sideline and clinical environment
Excellent communication skills to allow for proper relay of information between various settings: on-field, training room, and clinical
Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology to patients in plain language and utilize teach-back to ensure full understanding
Problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective relationships with peers and patients
Positive growth mindset
Organization with adaptability and flexibility to multi-task with appropriate prioritization
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead
Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
Must be able to work in stressful situations
Must be able to tolerate frequent periods of extended standing and sitting
Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
Must be able to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present to assist and transfer patients as needed
Must frequently walk, sit or stand for extended periods
Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
Must be able to perform fine manipulation for wound dressing, stitch/staple removal, casting/splinting, etc.
Must be able to utilize PPE as necessary in the event of chemical, blood or body fluid exposure
Ability to work in an environment that varies from office to outside temperatures/environments
Ability to travel - note: weather and road conditions do fluctuate throughout the year
Functional use of senses to allow effective communication
