Position Summary/Department Summary: Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) Gastroenterology Procedure Unit (GPU), supports a wide array of anesthesia supported diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedure for both inpatients and outpatients on main campus, as well as procedures performed by the Pain and Ortho services. Department of Pediatrics (DoP) Sedation service provides sedation services for invasive procedures that don’t require anesthesia care, such as PICC line placements, lumbar puncture, IT chemo, bone marrow aspirates, sedated hearing tests, and phlebotomy. Additionally, the GPU is home to the GI Division’s Motility program offering short and long motility studies, Bravo, Impedance Probes and EndoFlip diagnostic tests. The GPU is also home to an eclectic cluster of diagnostic procedures that support the GI Division including non-sedated nasal endoscopy, wireless endoscopy, lactose breath testing* indirect calorimetry*, and Fibroscan (Liver Density) diagnostic tests.
Job Responsibility:
Providing basic direct care to patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse
Assisting in direct procedural care as part of a multi-disciplinary team as delegated Registered Nurse
Perform fibroscans, breath tests, and other procedural responsibilities under the oversight of a Registered Nurse
Assisting with obtaining, measuring and recording routine information such as temperature, pulse and blood pressure
Assisting in communicating with patients and physicians directly
Identifying and reporting unusual findings or changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse
Supporting the motility program, assisting in setting up and calibrating motility equipment, and assisting in motility procedural care as directed by the Registered Nurse
Requirements:
HS Diploma or equivalent
1 year CA experience, CNA certification, or Nursing Student with at least one clinical rotation
Good communication skills and the ability to work on a team
