Job Responsibility

  • Study inpatient records and determine their authenticity
  • Review patients’ documentation to determine diagnosis, co-morbidities, and complications
  • Verify that each code assigned is accurate and correlates to the condition and diagnosis provided in the source document
  • Serve as a resource for coding related queries after verifying authenticity of inquirer
  • Ascertain that quality and integrity of coding including accurate determination of principle diagnosis, secondary diagnosis, and PCS codes
  • Responsible for reviewing patient medical records in the inpatient setting to capture accurate illustration of the severity of illness and facilitate proper coding
  • Facilitate appropriate coding that reflects the severity of the patient’s illness along with expected risk of mortality and complexity of care required
  • Documentation of discharge diagnoses and co-morbidities is a comprehensive reflection of the patient’s clinical status and care
  • Use advanced knowledge of disease processes (pathophysiology), medications, and have critical thinking skills to analyze current documentation to identify gaps
  • Recognize opportunities in concurrent and retrospective inpatient clinical medical documentation to support quality and effective coding

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of medical business office procedures and basic accounting
  • Fluent in English speaking and possess basic computer knowledge
  • Available to work in night shifts
  • Graduate with bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • 2 to 3 years of work experience in nursing
  • Certification in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Coding

Nice to have

Knowledge about medical billing software and healthcare technology is an added advantage
