Job Description

Classroom Assistant role in an SEMH Specialist School for students aged 11–16. The school provides a calm, therapeutic environment within beautiful grounds and small, nurturing classes. The role involves working alongside skilled teachers to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

Job Responsibility

  • Supporting students in lessons, both individually and in small groups
  • Helping young people develop emotional regulation, confidence and independence
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Assisting with learning activities, practical tasks and personalised interventions
  • Creating a calm, safe and structured environment
  • Encouraging engagement and celebrating every success—big or small

Requirements

  • Calm, patient and compassionate
  • Comfortable supporting children with SEMH needs
  • Able to stay positive and solution‑focused in challenging moments
  • Passionate about helping young people thrive
  • Good communicator who can build strong relationships
  • Happy to work as part of a close, supportive team
  • Willingness to learn
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services
