Job Description:

Do you want more local driving and be a valued member of a delivery team? This may be the role for you. You will enjoy a varied role driving locally as well as building relationships with our regular customers. Our drivers are the beating heart of our business and you will play a vital role in ensuring customers receive their deliveries on time and with a great service. This is a 7 day operation, our shift patterns may include some weekend working. Fully funded CPC training hours provided.

Job Responsibility:

  • Safely driving HGVs, usually in a local or regional multi-drop capacity, ensuring products arrive on time and intact
  • Loading stock in the vehicle at the branch and unloading it at customer sites, often using tail lifts
  • Handballing products at delivery points, which can be physically demanding and occur in adverse weather conditions
  • Strictly adhering to HGV driving legislation, Working Time Regulations, tachograph compliance, and food safety standards (including, in some cases, monitoring freezer/fridge temperatures)
  • Performing pre-use safety checks (defect checks) and reporting any faults to the transport department
  • Acting as the "face" of Booker, providing excellent customer service, and collecting empty equipment from customers
  • Accurately completing delivery notes, invoices, and electronic records via handheld devices (PDA)

Requirements:

  • Cat C / 18T Licence / Class 2
  • Previous experience of driving (at least two years)
  • Previous experience of delivery driving is preferred
  • Ability to carry out manual deliveries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive customer service attitude
  • Good level of literacy and numeracy

  • May need to climb truck (15 ft) to direct loading and occasionally uses a #5 sledgehammer to remove stuck feed as necessary
