Job Description:

Join Our Team as a Civil Environmental Engineer at Water Works Engineers! As a Civil Environmental Engineer based in our Albuquerque office, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of water infrastructure across New Mexico and the greater Southwest. Your work will directly support the planning and design of essential municipal systems—bringing safe, reliable water and wastewater services to communities of all sizes, from rural towns to urban centers. Whether you’re designing pipelines, pump stations, storage tanks, or treatment facilities, your contributions will improve quality of life, protect public and environmental health, and strengthen long-term water resilience in a changing climate. At Water Works Engineers, we believe that infrastructure should serve people—and you’ll be at the heart of that mission. This is your opportunity to bring technical excellence, creative problem-solving, and a passion for sustainability to projects that matter. Every design you support, every solution you help shape, will leave a lasting impact.

Job Responsibility:

  • Support design efforts for water, wastewater, recycled water, and conveyance systems
  • Perform engineering calculations, site layout, hydraulic modeling, and preparation of technical documents
  • Contribute to the development of construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Assist with permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental documentation
  • Participate in construction administration and occasional fieldwork, including observations, submittals, and RFI reviews, etc.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including municipalities and utility districts
  • Maintain quality and consistency across technical deliverables while supporting client goals and project timelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant engineering experience in water, wastewater, or recycled water infrastructure
  • EIT certification is required
  • PE licensure or the ability to obtain it within one year is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and USEPA permitting processes
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, treatment processes, and site civil design principles
  • Experience with software tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel for project meetings, fieldwork, and construction support, particularly within New Mexico
What we offer:
  • Paid Time Off: Eight paid holidays annually, with paid time off (PTO) accrual based on role
  • 401K Retirement Plan: Company match of 100% on the first 6% of your salary, with immediate eligibility
  • Health Insurance: Fully covered for employee-only plans, with the company contributing significantly towards family coverage
  • Dental and Vision Insurance: Fully covered for employees, with affordable options for family coverage
  • Life and Disability Insurance: Provided at no cost
  • Additional Benefits: Health Care Flexible Spending Account, Adoption Assistance, Employee Assistance Program, and Commuter Benefits
  • Employees may be eligible for bonuses based on individual and company performance
