Job Description

Civil Engineering Placement (12 Months) Starting Summer 2026. We have exciting opportunities for undergraduate Civil Engineers to join the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor. You will get hands-on experience within a dynamic and progressive company. This is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable experience and put some of what you are learning into practice, working alongside a vastly experienced team.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist and support the management of site operations, to ensure safety, quality, cost effectiveness, timely production and customer satisfaction
  • Learn the aspects of planning and sequencing of operations, including writing method statements and risk assessments, and procuring sub-contractor, labour, plant and material resources
  • Implement operational quality control measures and QA processes
  • Develop work plans, method statements and risk assessments
  • Monitor the progress of project works
  • Take a proactive approach in the responsibility for Health and Safety ensuring all required documentation is in place
  • Ensure full communication across all management levels within the project
  • Ensure that all operatives are provided with the necessary resources, materials and information for the carrying out of their duties and for ensuring that safe working practices are followed
  • Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard
  • Conduct self in a way that reflect and promotes the Van Elle company values
  • Understand and act in accordance with Van Elle’s policies and procedures
  • Any other tasks that you may reasonably be required to undertake

Requirements

  • Undertaking a degree in Civil Engineering
  • Be able to demonstrate practical experience from construction or similar transferrable skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferable
  • IT competent in Microsoft packages and SharePoint
  • Valid CSCS would be beneficial
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines and under pressure
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy of work
  • Effective planning and organisation skills
  • A structured approach to problem solving
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and technical skills
  • Knowledge of the relevant legal and safety regulations
  • Eligible to work and live in the UK
  • Flexibility to travel in the UK
  • A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK (desirable)

  • Experience with AutoCAD
