Job Description

A Civil Engineer Intern with Houston Engineering Inc. (HEI) will spend time in the field working on outdoor construction phase activities as well as a variety of in-office projects assisting engineers. We strive to provide a personalized internship based on your area of interest. This may include learning how to do roadway design, geometric layout, drainage analysis, and erosion control.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist with plan specifications and estimates as well as documenting construction activities
  • Assist with AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings and update redlines with various project set drawings
  • Operate electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station
  • Perform work in a variety of software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, ArcGIS, etc
  • Potential observation and data collection at different types of project sites
  • Assist with research, development and design of projects

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering program
  • Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred
  • Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions
  • Above average math and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and availability for overnight travel
