Job Description

The City Engineer leads the Engineering Division in a team-oriented setting under the Director of Public Works for the fast-paced, service-driven Melrose Public Works department.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee the planning, design, and construction of roadway and utility infrastructure projects
  • Manage grants, contracts, vendors, and personnel
  • Serve as the city’s liaison to boards and commissions
  • Support short- and long-range planning initiatives
  • Manage in-house staff and outside consultants
  • Maintain strong public relations
  • Communicate professionally and diplomatically with residents, elected officials, businesses, and state and federal agencies

Requirements

  • Massachusetts PE license
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field
  • Five to seven years of municipal experience
  • 12–15 years of professional engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and GIS systems
