Job Description:

Supervise and coordinate kitchen activities, create decorative food displays, ensure food quality and presentation, monitor inventory, assist in staff management, and maintain safety standards at The Westin Nanjing Resort & Spa.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and workers
  • Determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays
  • Ensure proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish
  • Monitor quantity of food prepared
  • Inform Food & Beverage service staff of menu specials and out of stock items
  • Prepare special meals or substitute items
  • Assist cooks and kitchen staff with various tasks
  • Provide cooks with needed items
  • Monitor stock of kitchen supplies and food
  • Maintain kitchen logs for food safety program
  • Ensure quality of food items
  • Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating employees
  • Follow company safety and security policies
  • Report maintenance needs and unsafe conditions
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are professional
  • Address guests' service needs
  • Develop positive working relationships

Requirements:

  • Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree
  • 4 to 6 years of related work experience
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate activities of cooks and workers
  • Knowledge of food presentation and decorative displays
  • Understanding of proper portion control and food garnish
  • Ability to monitor food quantities and stock levels
  • Experience maintaining kitchen logs for food safety programs
  • Ability to assist in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating employees
  • Knowledge of safety and security policies and procedures
  • Physical ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to reach overhead and below knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds
