Job Description

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Children's Social Worker to join its Duty & Assessment Team on an initial 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking local authority, playing a vital role in safeguarding children and supporting families at critical points of need. As a Social Worker within the Duty & Assessment Team, you will be responsible for undertaking timely assessments, managing safeguarding concerns, and ensuring children receive the right support at the right time. You will work collaboratively with families, partner agencies, and multi-disciplinary professionals to promote positive outcomes for children and young people.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct child and family assessments in line with statutory requirements
  • Identify and manage safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate interventions are implemented
  • Manage a varied caseload of children and families requiring assessment and support
  • Make informed decisions regarding child welfare, protection, and risk management
  • Develop and coordinate effective support plans with partner agencies
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records
  • Contribute to strategy discussions, case conferences, and review meetings
  • Ensure all work complies with current legislation, statutory guidance, and local authority procedures

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent)
  • Recent experience within Children's Services, particularly Duty & Assessment
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • A commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families
