About the Role Child Life Specialist Location: Chicago, IL Organization Type: Pediatric Healthcare & Transitional Care Program
Job Responsibility:
Provide developmentally appropriate play, preparation, and coping support for children ages birth-21 in respite or transitional care
Create individualized activity plans based on developmental level, diagnosis, coping style, and family needs
Facilitate therapeutic play, education, and self‑expression to reduce stress and support adjustment to illness, disability, or prolonged healthcare stays
Communicate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, family‑centered care
Support siblings and family members through education, emotional support, and resource identification
Participate in training, mentoring, and orientation of students and volunteers
Maintain program supplies, documentation, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child & Family Studies, or a related field
Minimum 1 year of experience in a child life or pediatric developmental setting
Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
Strong communication, teamwork, and child‑development knowledge, including coping styles and trauma‑informed approaches
