Position Summary/ Department Summary: Child Life Assistant – Cardiology (Per diem). We would like shifts to be picked up Monday-Friday.

Job Responsibility

  • Organizes and facilitates play programs and activities to meet individual and group needs
  • Develops and maintains supportive relationships within therapeutic boundaries with patients and families
  • When needed escalates observations and interactions to the child life specialist
  • Assists in purchasing, restocking, and maintaining supplies for Child Life Programming
  • Maintains appropriate infection prevention and control and safety standards for patient care needs
  • With direction from child life specialists, assists in delegating routine tasks to assigned volunteers

Requirements

  • High-school or GED diploma
  • Preferred early childhood education experience

  • Works with the multidisciplinary team to provide education to patients and families and to formulate and implement a plan of care
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments when planning and implementing special activities and events that assist the patient and family with normalizing their hospital experience
  • Serves as a patient and family advocate through the philosophy of family centered care
  • Assists with planning, presenting and evaluating in-service education
  • Works with the Child Life Assistants and Volunteer Services to on-board and evaluate volunteers as needed
  • Provides education and supervision of student interns for the Child Life Department
