Part of the Organisational Effectiveness Directorate, the Chief People Officer is a strategic and transformative role at Migrant Help. You will lead the Organisational Effectiveness function, driving the way we attract, develop and support our people and evaluating the impact of the work that we do. In partnership with senior leaders, the CPO is dedicated to making us a place where people thrive, leadership is inclusive, performance is recognised and rewarded, and wellbeing is prioritised. You will champion equity, diversity and inclusion, embedding these in the colleague experience. Leading on monitoring, evaluation and learning, you will have a key role in effectively demonstrating the outcomes of our work while using learning to strengthen our overall organisational model.

Job Responsibility:

  • Leading in partnership with the CEOs, leadership and the boards of both Migrant Help and Clear Voice, to successfully develop, implement and monitor the organisational strategic plans for the organisations
  • Creating, developing and implementing the respective people strategies, along with the CEOs for Migrant Help and Clear Voice, providing strategic leadership for the function
  • Delivering impact reporting to monitor, evaluate and learn from our activities to maximise future performance against our strategy
  • Along with leadership, creating a culture which embodies the organisational values, strategic objectives and purpose of the respective organisations, where the organisation is seen as a great place to work and employer of choice, committed to talent management, professional development, fair remuneration and a sustainable workplace culture
  • Contributing to the overall success of the organisation in accordance with Migrant Help and Clear Voice’s aims and objectives
  • Overseeing people structures, systems and processes, so that they remain effective and appropriate to the size and nature of the work of Migrant Help and Clear Voice
  • Providing excellent stewardship of Migrant Help’s resources, to deliver value for money in areas under the postholder’s control and to guide and advise colleagues across the organisation to achieve the same
  • Working across leadership to provide effective governance in line with charity and legal requirements and best practice
  • Providing an inspirational leadership presence, visible and accessible throughout the organisation, through site visits, conferences, written and verbal communications, and various stakeholder forum, modelling compassionate, strong and fair leadership
  • Participating at Board, Committee, Leadership and Management meetings as needed to achieve the governance and leadership responsibilities of the role
  • Any other ad hoc duties as deemed reasonable by the Chief Executive Officer and Board
  • Leading a team of experts across a range of disciplines delivering key initiatives, including but not limited to, resourcing, supporting organisational change, pay and reward, employee relations and engagement, and delivering impact monitoring and performance management systems that deliver clarity of purpose, accountability, and compliance with key metrics
  • Lead workforce planning efforts to align talent needs with current and future business priorities
  • Working with the CIO, leading the selection, development and use of appropriate technology systems to support the Organisational Effectiveness function
  • Supporting and developing the pay and reward strategy, working closely with the People and Remuneration Committee, to deliver fair, equitable and sustainable remuneration
  • Creating an expert team to provide advice and guidance on employment matters, with a channel for seeking external advice, where appropriate
  • Commissioning services, projects or activity that supports the delivery of Organisational Effectiveness objectives
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of and providing or sourcing up-to-date knowledge of the legal framework and best practice within the scope of People and Culture
  • Leadership in monitoring, evaluating and learning through the work of our Impact Lead, providing analysis and reporting to internal and external stakeholders
  • Line management of senior managers within the Organisational Effectiveness function to deliver high quality leadership, robust risk management and excellent service delivery
  • Driving continuous improvement throughout the organisation through your impact on people, development, wellbeing, learning and sustainability
  • Working closely with the CEOs and leadership of Migrant Help and its subsidiaries, directing, developing and implementing effective strategies for transformation within the organisation
  • Developing senior and future leaders and maintaining a succession planning strategy for the senior leaders across the organisations
  • Managing excellent relationships with stakeholders and maintaining and enhancing the reputation of Migrant Help and Clear Voice by representing the organisation internally and externally
  • Promoting equity, diversity and inclusion, working with the EDI lead to embed these values within our culture and monitor our effectiveness at living these values
  • Working closely with the Comms team, developing the reputation of Migrant Help and Clear Voice as a great place to work and an employer of choice
  • Encouraging and enabling working with clients through our Lived Experience Advisory Panels to coproduce services

  • Demonstrable creative approach to development, implementation and evaluation of people strategy
  • Demonstrable experience of creating or growing a values-led organisational culture
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex people matters at a senior level in line with excellent knowledge of best practice, workforce and strategic planning
  • Ability to understand, evaluate and advocate effective and persuasive strategies, contributing to the wider direction of the organisation
  • Excellent relationship manager with excellent people leadership, coaching and team-building skills, able to help drive best performance across individuals and teams and foster a culture of collaboration and high performance
