Job Description:

Our client is seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership for a nonprofit organization in the Chattanooga, TN area. This long-term contract opportunity is well-suited for a hands-on finance executive who can lead day-to-day financial operations while guiding long-term financial strategy, reporting improvements, and organizational planning.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead the organization’s overall financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning aligned with mission-driven objectives
  • Oversee cash flow, liquidity, and capital utilization to support ongoing financial stability and sustainability
  • Direct the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements for leadership and board reporting
  • Enhance financial reporting processes to provide meaningful insights into performance, trends, and risk areas
  • Evaluate and oversee accounting systems and financial infrastructure, including supporting potential ERP/system transitions (e.g., Microsoft Great Plains)
  • Partner with executive leadership to assess financial implications of strategic initiatives, funding decisions, and operational priorities
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and compliance procedures in alignment with nonprofit best practices
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve financial transparency, planning discipline, and organizational efficiency

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role, such as CFO or equivalent executive-level position
  • Strong expertise in cash flow management, capital planning, and organizational financial strategy
  • Demonstrated success leading month-end close and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting
  • Experience overseeing accounting systems and financial platforms, including familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains or similar ERP solutions
  • Deep understanding of budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and financial performance analysis
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex financial concepts to executive leadership, boards, and non-financial stakeholders
  • Experience within a nonprofit organization, or strong familiarity with nonprofit financial operations and reporting requirements
