The Chief Engineer will oversee the daily operations of the hotel's engineering department, ensuring all hotel systems, equipment, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can manage a team of engineers and technicians, supervise preventive maintenance, handle emergency repairs, and ensure the hotel's compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee the daily operations of the hotel's engineering team
Ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of all hotel equipment and facilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
Manage the preventive maintenance program
Perform inspections of hotel facilities to identify issues, coordinate repairs, and ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality
Monitor the work of external contractors as needed for specialized repairs or installations
Be knowledgeable in all engineering SOP’s and sets the example for others by following all CSM and brand requirements
Lead, train, and supervise a team of engineers, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities
Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for 24/7 hotel operations
Promote a safe and efficient work environment
Ensure the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including fire, health, and environmental standards
Be knowledgeable of hotel emergency procedures
Assist in safety audits, ensuring all staff are trained in emergency procedures
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable building codes and safety standards
Ensure all guest-facing systems and facilities, including air conditioning, lighting, plumbing, and elevators, are operating efficiently to enhance the guest experience
Respond to guest complaints and maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner
Manage renovation projects, equipment upgrades, and other capital improvement initiatives as needed
Coordinate with other departments, including housekeeping and front desk, to ensure the timely completion of projects
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
College degree or equivalent experience preferred
CPO, HVAC, boiler, Serve Safe certification desired, or the ability to obtain certification based on policy guidelines
Current and valid driver’s license and safe driving record required
2+ years of engineering management experience required, preferably in the hotel industry
Must be detail oriented
Must have ability to communicate well with all levels within and outside the organization
Must be able to problem-solve with employees and guests
Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Must have Maryland stationary engineering license (3rd grade or higher)
Nice to have:
College degree or equivalent experience
CPO, HVAC, boiler, Serve Safe certification
Engineering management experience in the hotel industry
