Job Description

As the Chef Manager at Dulwich Prep School, you will take full ownership of the catering operation, ensuring the smooth delivery of fresh, nutritious, and high-quality meals for the prep school and nursery. You will be responsible for managing stock, ordering, and supplier relationships while also enhancing menus to meet the evolving needs of the school community. This role also includes overseeing school functions and events, working closely with staff to provide an excellent dining experience. This role offers the opportunity to manage and nurture a small team while contributing to the well-being of students and staff.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee food preparation and meal service for the prep school and nursery
  • Ensure high standards of food quality, hygiene, and health and safety are maintained
  • Plan and develop menus that meet the needs of students and staff
  • Manage stock control and order supplies as needed
  • Control food budgets and ensure cost-effective operations
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, balanced, and cater to dietary requirements
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen cleanliness and organisation
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative working environment within the kitchen team
  • Lead a dedicated team of 5 kitchen staff
  • Oversee stock management, ordering, and cost control
  • Enhance menus and drive innovation in school catering
  • Support and deliver high-quality functions and events

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar chef or kitchen management role
  • Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene certification (or equivalent)
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen management
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
  • Passion for quality food and a commitment to high standards of service
