We are looking for a strong, confident Checkout 2IC to support our Checkout Manager in the day-to-day operation of our front-end team. This role is suited to someone who is comfortable supervising staff, managing customer interactions, and maintaining structure and control on the checkout — ensuring smooth operations during both steady and busy trading periods. At New World Ferry Road, customer service standards matter, and the Checkout 2IC plays a key role in setting expectations, supporting the team, and ensuring a professional checkout environment at all times.
Job Responsibility:
Supporting the supervision and coordination of checkout staff
Taking a leadership role on shift and confidently managing the checkout floor
Handling customer issues and operational decisions professionally and calmly
Ensuring checkout standards, procedures, and presentation are consistently met
Supporting Lotto and Café operations where required
Upholding all legal requirements relating to the Sale of Liquor Act and Sale of Tobacco
Helping maintain a controlled, organised, and efficient checkout operation
Requirements:
Have prior supermarket experience (essential)
Be confident, assertive, and capable of supervising a team
Communicate clearly and professionally with staff and customers
Remain calm and effective when dealing with challenging situations
Be well organised with strong attention to detail
Take pride in presentation and standards
Be computer competent and reliable
Nice to have:
A Duty Manager’s Certificate would be highly regarded
