Job Responsibility:

  • Assembles necessary supplies and equipment, and administers intravenous, spinal, and other anesthetics prior to surgical or other medical procedures
  • Monitors patients reactions and vital signs during and after anesthesia and takes remedial action when warranted
  • Submits postoperative report on patients condition, and maintains records of anesthetics administered
  • Provides anesthesia services, including general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care to patients
  • Performs pre-anesthesia functions including determining that an appropriate pre-anesthetic examination has been made, insuring relevant tests are completed, and reviewing the patient's condition prior to induction
  • Performs post-anesthesia duties including remaining with the patient until safe to transfer care, advising on post-anesthetic care, administering post-operative analgesia, and making post-anesthetic visits
  • Responsible for narcotic accounting and distribution
  • Responds to life threatening, Code Blue/Code 4 and respiratory emergencies if available by establishing and maintaining an airway
  • Assists nursing units with difficult intravenous (IV) insertions when requested
  • May administers anesthesia under the supervision of the operating surgeon
  • May provides labor analgesia in the Birth Day Center
  • Maintains knowledge of scientific theory, research findings, current practice and applicable standards
  • May participate in departmental improvement processes and ASC processes when appropriate
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Nurse Anesthetist certification (CRNA) issued by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license issued by the state of Wisconsin
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Must be able to fulfill department schedule needs, which may include 24/7 call and weekend coverage, as needed
