The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a member of the interdisciplinary team who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and performs various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient’s personal needs and to promote comfort. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for observing the patient, reporting these observations to the RN and documenting observations to the RN and documenting care.

Job Responsibility:

Provide personal care to patients, including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens as assigned
Assist patients with dressing, undressing, feeding, and other daily activities as assigned
Take and record oral, rectal, and axillary temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as ordered
Monitor and care for patients’ skin to prevent tissue breakdown over bony prominence
Observe and report any significant changes in the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse
Assist with patient ambulation, exercise, and use of bedpans and urinals as directed by the nursing staff
Keep patient living areas clean and orderly and assist with light laundry needs
Adhere to the organization’s documentation procedures
Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct
Ensure patient safety by using equipment properly and adhering to safety protocols
Participate in personal and professional growth activities
Be respectful of patients' and families’ environments and personal needs

Requirements:

Currently licensed in VA as a Certified Nursing Assistant
High School Diploma strongly preferred
Self-directed with the ability to work with little direct supervision
Is secure with issues of death/dying
Provides a calm manner when in a patient’s home
Possesses and maintains current CPR certification
