The Nurse Aide trainee (NAT) receives classroom and clinical training under the direct supervision of licensed clinical staff during the Nurse Aide Training Program. After successful completion, trainees will have the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the NYS Certified Nurse Aide Exam in order to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Nurse Aide Trainees provide direct and indirect care activities (under the direct supervision of the clinical supervisor) to assist residents/patients with activities of daily living.
Job Responsibility:
Complete work assignments, be prompt, prepared for class and report as scheduled, maintain good attendance
Train in providing care to residents/patients within the scope of a CNA (e.g., bed bathing, dressing, oral hygiene)
Train in assisting residents with toileting and general nursing care (positioning, lifting, turning, applying special equipment)
Notify appropriate licensed staff when resident has any change in condition
Record changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents
Perform all aspects of resident care in an environment that optimizes resident safety
Train in taking temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure at beginning of shift and as directed
Train in making rounds and know whereabouts of assigned residents
Train in making rounds before the end of the shift to ensure the unit is left in good condition
Provide report to licensed staff
Encourage resident attendance to activity programs and assist with transportation
Train in checking for reddened areas or skin breakdown daily and notify licensed staff
Train in preparing residents for meals in a timely manner
Serve and remove food trays in a timely manner
Assist with meals or feed residents if necessary
Ensure that adequate fluid is available to residents and assist as needed
Distribute nourishments in a timely fashion
Document food and fluid consumption
Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationship with residents, family members and other facility personnel while assuring confidentiality
Anticipate residents’ needs and make rounds to assigned residents
Adhere to policies and procedures of the facility and MVHS
Take the NYS Certified Nurse Aide Exam within 10 days of successful completion of the Nurse Aide Training Program
