The Diabetes Educator Dietitian plays a crucial role in providing nutritional guidance and general self-management education to individuals living with diabetes. This professional participates in the development and implementation of current and new nutrition and education programs. The Diabetes Educator Dietician works closely with the department coordinator in maintaining ADA accreditation and performing continuous quality improvement projects.
Job Responsibility:
Patient Assessment: Evaluate patients' medical history, dietary habits, and lifestyle to determine their nutritional needs
Personalized Meal Planning: Create and implement individualized meal plans tailored to patients’ specific diabetes management goals
Education and Counseling: Teach patients about the relationship between diet and diabetes, offering practical advice and strategies for healthy eating in one-on-one and group settings
Monitoring and Evaluation: Track patients' progress, adjust meal plans as necessary, and provide ongoing support and encouragement
Collaboration: Work with healthcare providers, including providers and nurses, to ensure a cohesive approach to diabetes management
Resource Development: Develop and utilize educational materials and resources to aid patients in understanding and managing their condition. Participate in community events, as appropriate
Competencies: Perform and maintain the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required within the department
Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university
2 or more years of experience in nutrition or diabetes
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist - Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) within 1 Year
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
Licensed Dietitian - State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS)
Nice to have:
Master's Degree in dietetics or nutrition from an accredited college or university
2 or more years of clinical experience in an ADA or AADE accredited program
