The Pre-Anesthesia Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in the planning, organization, and implementation of unit-based services to ensure high-quality patient care and operational excellence within the pre-anesthesia setting. This role assists with fiscal management, performance improvement initiatives, and maintaining compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Pre-Anesthesia Assistant Nurse Manager actively participates in personnel processes, including staff engagement, effective communication, and shared decision-making, while supporting timely problem-solving and change management efforts. Strong collaboration with interdisciplinary departments is essential to this role. Serving as key bench strength for the Nurse Manager, the Pre-Anesthesia Assistant Nurse Manager helps ensure continuity of leadership and fosters a positive, accountable, and patient-centered care environment.
Job Responsibility:
Assists the Nurse Manager with unit assessments, staff skill proficiency and competency evaluations
Supports equipment and supply management to ensure readiness, safety, and appropriate utilization
Assists in overseeing daily unit operations to support safe, efficient patient care
Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and service excellence efforts
Assists with staffing coordination and scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage and workload balance
Supports operational decision-making related to staffing needs and workflow adjustments
Assists with personnel processes, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and corrective or disciplinary actions as needed
Provides support, coaching, and guidance to staff to promote professional development and accountability
Participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of performance improvement plans
Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements
Supports initiatives that promote quality outcomes, patient safety, and continuous improvement
Communicates effectively with staff, patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary stakeholders
Collaborates with all departments as an active member of the management and leadership team to ensure coordinated care and operational alignment
Assists the Nurse Manager in making timely decisions and supporting change initiatives
Serves as leadership bench strength for the Nurse Manager role, helping ensure continuity and stability within the department.
Requirements:
Experience in hospital or acute care setting
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients and team members
Ability to manage crisis situations effectively
Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, team members, and visitors
Knowledge and experience with electronic health records
Proficiency in CPR
BLS Certification
NIH Stroke Certification
ACLS certification (within 6 months of hire)
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program + Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Active pursuit of a Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) if not already possessing a BSN.
