Job Description:

The Category Manager is responsible for supporting national and regional strategic direction, managing local assortment and planogram execution, owning frontline pricing decisions, and maintaining vendor operations and local relationships. The role involves actionable operational reporting, selecting local vendors, negotiating costs, and developing promotional concepts to increase sales revenues. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in advertising, business, or related field, five years of experience, and expertise in MS Office. Physical demands include sitting for long periods, operating a computer, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supports national and regional strategic direction
  • Responsible for local assortment and planogram execution
  • Owns frontline pricing decisions
  • Responsible for vendor operations and local relationships
  • Responsible for planogram implementation – resets
  • Responsible for actionable operational reporting
  • Selects local vendors, negotiates costs, terms for products, and develops schematics
  • Increases sales revenues by developing promotional concepts and overlay programs
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing Financial and Key Result Area targets
  • Foster positive relationships between the National, Regional and Business Unit team and Operational team
  • Supports pilots/testing activities
  • Establishes and monitors gross margins
  • Projects and measures category sales and gross profit results
  • Maintains external local and national vendor relations
  • Recommends changes in products, service, and policy
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual category review, budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions
  • Allocates program costs by preparing operational and risk reports
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, business, or related field preferred
  • Five years of experience or more preferred
  • including a minimum of three years of management responsibility
  • Expertise in MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word preferred
  • Must have strong relationship management, analytical thinking, and financial acumen skills
  • May require up to 30% of travel
  • Valid driver’s license required
