Are you interested in a full-time Shelter Manager opportunity that impacts the lives of homeless cats? Gifford Cat Shelter – the first free-roam, no-kill shelter in the country – seeks a Shelter Manager to oversee the daily operation of the shelter. This role is responsible for ensuring excellent animal care, a clean and safe environment, strong volunteer management, and efficient administrative processes. This is a hands-on role that combines animal care, cleaning, leadership, organization, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility
Oversee daily shelter operations and ensure high standards of animal care
Administer medications and monitor cats for health or behavioral concerns
Clean and maintain cat rooms, litter boxes, feeding areas, and common spaces
Train, supervise, and support volunteers
Maintain accurate records using CRM and shelter management systems
Coordinate with adopters, fosters, veterinarians, and other stakeholders
Manage inventory, supplies, and facility needs
Respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations and emergencies
Requirements
Must have a passion for cats
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a fast-paced work environment with significant responsibility and accountability
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized under pressure
Strong computer skills and experience using databases, CRM systems, or similar software
Experience supervising, training, or directing others
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Comfortable handling cats and administering medication (or willing to be trained)
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including cleaning, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods
Gifford Cat Shelter is staffed 365 days a year
this is a full-time, 5 shifts per week role, one shift must be a weekend day
Driver’s License required
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Self-starter who takes initiative and follows through
Comfortable balancing administrative work with hands-on responsibilities
Calm, dependable, and able to make sound decisions in a dynamic environment
Shares a strong commitment to animal welfare and maintaining high standards of care
