Portsmouth is fortunate to have over 4 miles of active public seafront and the purpose of this role is to provide seasonal support to ensure the public space is being appropriately and safely used by the general public - both residents and visitors alike. The role will involve supporting the public using the seafront and all its different offers. You will be based both at the Seafront Office with occasional remote working across other parts of the seafront such as the Hotwalls or Canoe lake.
Job Responsibility:
Provide seasonal support to ensure public seafront is appropriately and safely used
Support the public using the seafront and all its different offers
Engage with visitors daily
Have detailed knowledge of activities taking place
Pass on information to the public and answer queries
React to problems appropriately
Challenge public behaviour including re-educating those who flout seafront bylaws
Carry out inspections of equipment and signage
Identify and report repairs and ensure follow-up
Work weekend and bank holidays
Requirements:
Experience of working directly with the public
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Ability to regularly walk across areas of the seafront including shingle and steps
Experience engaging with the public on difficult topics
Proactive approach to identify and deal with issues
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Calm and tactful manner
Ability to challenge public behaviour when necessary
