Reporting to the Team Leader, the Case Worker will form part of the Miyalk Shelter team to deliver culturally appropriate case work support and services for clients residing in the shelter and through outreach across surrounding communities. With a focus on NAAFLS’ values of cultural respect, collaboration, trust and courage, this role requires solid communication skills, cultural knowledge, and the ability to work in a trauma informed and strength-based way to empower clients to achieve their goals and develop plans for their safety and wellbeing. Contributing to the day-to-day operations of the shelter, the Case Worker will assist with shared support tasks alongside team members to ensure a safe, welcoming and well-managed environment.
Job Responsibility:
Providing case management support for women and their children residing in crisis and short-term accommodation and through outreach across surrounding communities
Provide individualised children-centred case work services as required
Complete comprehensive risk and safety assessments and identify referral and support needs
Offer culturally sensitive support and information to clients, respecting their cultural needs and background
Help clients create safety and support plans, ensuring their safety and wellbeing are prioritised
Support and empower clients to achieve goals identified in their safety and support plans
Work closely with clients and their families to navigate legal, financial, welfare, housing and health systems, acting as an advocate for clients while addressing the complex impacts of DFV
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes, client files and input data into NAAFLS’ electronic systems in a timely and organised manner
Provide feedback on the continuous improvement and innovation of internal processes and procedures to ensure consistent, effective service delivery to clients
Support a safe working environment by adhering to and promoting NAAFLS’ Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) policies and procedures
Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, enhancing collaboration and service outreach
Actively engage in regular meetings, ensuring case progress and compliance with NAAFLS’ policies and procedures
Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the shelter and practicalities of communal living as an active member of the Miyalk Shelter team ensuring the safety, security and welcoming shelter environment
Engage in ongoing professional development and training
Undertake other duties as reasonably directed
Requirements:
Possess relevant experience in case work or a related field
Ability and willingness to undertake professional development and training
Demonstrated experience in delivering services within a case management framework, specifically in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community services setting
Proven ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, demonstrating solid relationship-building and advocacy skills
Capacity to provide culturally appropriate services that are tailored to meet individual client needs
Willingness to genuinely consult and implement cultural knowledge and expertise to improve service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
Ability to accurately record information in client databases and use Microsoft Office suite
Must obtain and keep a current Working with Children Clearance (WWCC) and a satisfactory national Criminal History Check
Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification
Possess a current ‘C’ Class NT Drivers Licence
Nice to have:
Ability to speak one or more local Aboriginal languages
Tertiary qualification in social work or a related field
