A Lay Case Examiner reviews evidence and decides on fitness to practise cases for nurses, midwives, and nursing associates, ensuring public protection and fair outcomes.
Job Responsibility:
Review evidence gathered during investigation and decide whether a case requires adjudication by a panel of our Fitness to Practise Committee
Consider alternative outcomes that sufficiently address risk and protect the public
Take restrictive action by agreeing undertakings with the professional under investigation
Issue advice or a warning in relation to past conduct
Make decisions in pairs with a registered professional
Requirements:
Not and never has been a registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate
Not and never has been a registered medical practitioner
Does not hold qualifications which would entitle them to apply for registration as a registered nurse, midwife, nursing associate or registered medical practitioner
Confident analysing large volumes of information and applying sound judgement to make timely evidence-based decisions
Operate with equity, placing EDI at the centre of your work, making decisions impartially without discrimination or bias
Use information and evidence objectively to get the best, most ethical, and fairest outcomes
