Job Description:

A Professional Case Examiner is a registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate. The role sits within the NMC’s Professional Regulation directorate and plays a critical role in safeguarding and protecting the public, enabling the organisation to deliver its regulatory responsibilities effectively. Case examiners use a range of guidance to help them reach decisions on whether there is a case to answer about a nurse, midwife or nursing associate’s fitness to practise.

Job Responsibility:

  • Review evidence gathered during investigation and decide whether a case requires adjudication by a panel of our Fitness to Practise Committee
  • Consider alternative outcomes that sufficiently address risk and protect the public
  • Take restrictive action by agreeing undertakings with the professional under investigation to help improve their practice or issuing advice or a warning in relation to past conduct
  • Make decisions in pairs with a registered professional and a lay person
  • Work in collaboration with investigators to identify gaps in evidence and support timely and proportionate investigations

Requirements:

  • Must be a registered nurse, midwife, or nursing associate who is currently practising
  • Must maintain registration via clinical practice hours
  • Must work a minimum of 3 days per week
  • Confident analysing large volumes of information and applying sound judgement to make timely evidence based decisions
  • Operate with equity, placing EDI at the centre of your work, making decisions impartially without discrimination or bias
  • Use information and evidence objectively to get the best, most ethical, and fairest outcomes
  • Enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Act with a clear sense of direction and professionalism, treating everyone respectfully and equitably
What we offer:
