The Carpenter / Millworker plays a key role in the fabrication and assembly of scenic, architectural, and branded elements across a range of ASTOUND projects—including exhibits, immersive activations, and permanent installations. This hands-on role requires precision, craftsmanship, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines to deliver exceptional work that meets ASTOUND’s creative and technical standards.
Job Responsibility:
Work effectively in a team-based environment to support the fabrication of scenic structures, architectural details, and branded environments
Read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and cut lists specific to custom fabrication projects
Fabricate millwork components, scenic flats, cabinetry, kiosks, platforms, and other structures using wood, MDF, laminates, and composite materials
Apply laminate, veneer, and edge banding with high attention to seam quality and finish
Construct modular and knock-down components designed for transport, repeated use, and on-site installation
Operate standard woodworking tools and machinery including table saws, routers, sanders, jointers, planers, and nail guns
Collaborate with CNC, Metal, LED, Paint and Graphics teams to integrate systems and finish components for fully built-out environments
Participate in on-site installations as needed—assembling structures to spec and supporting field teams in executing project installs
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, reporting any tool malfunctions, material issues, or build challenges to supervisors
Follow direction from the Foreman and Production Management to ensure quality, timelines, and project requirements are met
Support prototyping and development of new fabrication methods to support architectural or experiential builds
Requirements:
3–5 years of experience in millwork, scenic carpentry, or related custom fabrication fields
Proficient with woodworking tools, materials, and joinery techniques
Demonstrated ability to fabricate from technical drawings with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail
Experience working with laminates, hardwoods, composite materials, and specialty finishes
Able to lift 50 lbs., stand for long periods, and perform physical work in a shop or field setting
Self-motivated, organized, and capable of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have:
Experience in exhibit fabrication, scenic environments, or immersive brand activations
Familiarity with modular hardware systems used in trade shows and touring environments
Forklift and/or scissor lift certification
Knowledge of CNC fabrication workflows and cross-department integration
