Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds of material and up to 90 pounds of material with assistance, if requested
Frequently walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching and climbing
Frequent use of hand tools such as power tools, circular saws, hammers, nails, and bolts

Job Responsibility

Helps carpenters by performing duties of lesser skill
Operate hand and motorized equipment including power tools, saws, drills, hammers, and air-nailers
Construct concrete forms including foundations, shoring and decking operations, walls & columns, and other structural elements as the project requires
Install re-shores properly per instructions
Read a tape measure in feet and inches, and perform basic math functions
Working during inclement weather, could be exposed to extreme cold and heat, noise and dust from construction operations depending upon project site

CTE Teachers must possess, or be qualified to obtain, appropriate New York State Education Department Certification, and maintain such throughout employment. If not currently certified, the successful candidate will be provided assistance in the next steps, which include selecting a personalized pathway to obtain certification. NYSED certification includes, at a minimum, approved fingerprints, completion of DASA Training and SAVE Workshop, Child Abuse Identification Workshop, and submission of education and work experience to obtain Transitional certification. For this position, candidates must pursue NYS Teaching Certification in Trade Subjects – Carpentry 7-12. This certification requires the applicant to have in-depth, comprehensive, and appropriate work experience in the building of wooden commercial structures or residences. Experience may include, but is not limited to, using trade related blueprints and plans to build or install structures and fixtures such as windows and molding
measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, or other materials
constructing frameworks such as walls and door frames
replacing damaged woodwork structures
and instructing other construction helpers and laborers. For example, positions held may be framing, finishing, lead, and/or master carpenter. Successful candidates will be required to continue to work through the teacher certification process until achieving Professional Level certification.
