Job Description

The Career Services Specialist supports the planning, development, and implementation of student-centered career programming, advising, and employer engagement activities focused on graduate student career development. Working with students, alumni, employers, recruiters, and campus partners, this position applies career services concepts, policies, and procedures to support programs of moderate scope and complexity, including career readiness workshops, employer information sessions, industry panels, mentoring opportunities, recruiting activities, and other student career development offerings. The Specialist advises students and alumni on career exploration, internship and job search strategies, professional communication, interviewing, networking, and goal setting, while helping them identify interests, values, skills, and potential barriers to career success. The position also supports outreach, communication, participation tracking, and the use of career services technology platforms to increase student engagement with career resources and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience developing rapport with clients, tracking client progress from initial intake through job acceptance
  • Experience in a goal-oriented career counseling environment
  • experience in monitoring client progress, reaching out to clients to promote job search progress, and to express support and encouragement
  • Ability to guide students through the career lifecycle by synthesizing professional interests and market trends into actionable career plans
  • Skilled in researching and interpreting global and local employment data to develop tailored job-search strategies and promote diverse placement techniques
  • Knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques
  • Knowledge of UC programs, career services, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends
  • Ability to facilitate engaging career development presentations for diverse audiences in various formats (in-person, virtual, and recorded)
  • Skilled in real-time information synthesis to address inquiries in both group and individual settings, ensuring alignment with department policies and career counseling theories
  • Proven proficiency in adapting presentation styles and technical tools for effective delivery across multiple modalities, including in-person, large-group, and digital/virtual platforms
  • Ability to design, implement, and facilitate career development programs and workshops (e.g., resumes, interviewing, job search) for diverse audiences
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive professional relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, and corporate representatives
  • Skilled in navigating interpersonal dynamics, exercising professional judgment to ensure a demeanor that aligns with institutional standards
  • Ability to use computer systems and applications, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures
